The topic i have been assigned for our Oceanography project was building stuff, me and my partner talked about building some sort of environmentally friendly filter for the napa river but i remember my mom telling me about a lecture she saw talking about using plants as natural filters because some benefit from grabbing harsh minerals and sediment from the water. I pitched the idea of researching what native plants to the river filter water and which one does it best.
This question relates to my topic because if we can preserve them or create a way to plant more of these filtering plant back into areas where it belongs it can greatly increase the health of our water bodies and the wildlife who live within them. This topic fits in with my standards because i chose habitats and human relationship with ecosystems because by planting more of these plants we create a more suitable habitat for these animals and also could help create a way for groups to go and help our local environment if our experiment has good findings. My hypothesis is that more plants that are efficient at filtering in an area will result in cleaner and hopefully more healthy the dependent variable will be what plants we choose to use and the independent variable will be the base creek water used to test on.
